People often tell me that they “have to” eat certain foods or in certain ways, because their blood sugars otherwise start to go haywire, they have wheat sensitivities, or they wouldn’t be matching their body type. I feel that there are a lot of misconceptions in regards to all this.
If someone is, for example, thriving on two meals a day, and they are instead told to eat many meals to suit their body type, this can actually be detrimental for them. People cannot be grouped so crudely. Each person is unique and food needs will change based on lifestyle and personality. For example, an extreme amount of emotional anxiety speeds up metabolism, possibly creating a need for more nourishment/fuel. This is not due to “body type”, but stress management. Others ‘medicate’ themselves with food all day long, justifying their habit with reasons of blood type or even astrological sign.
Someone who thinks they have blood sugar issues may be told to eat six times a day. With this frequent feeding, they start to feel better, and assume their blood sugar has normalized. Truly, it all boils down to levels of toxicity. The endogenous poisons released during detox may cause shaking, fatigue and cravings. Constant eating stops this challenging detox and hence, people feel more comfortable.
A drug addict who snorts cocaine twice a day, becomes accustomed to his/her usual amount of this substance. If they cut back to once a day, withdrawal symptoms such as low energy, moodiness, and cravings for “a fix” will inevitably follow. This is not because their blood sugar went down. Do you see how people inaccurately use this explanation for what is really a system going through detox?
As soon as you refill the stomach with food, THE ELIMINATION IS STOPPED and you feel better!

In my opinion, Detoxification is the MOST MISUNDERSTOOD Concept in the Alternative Health Movement.
On a final note, let’s discuss when people say that they are sensitive to wheat… To me, this is like saying, “I am sensitive to pesticides”. Everyone is sensitive to wheat – it’s just that most people don’t realize it. Wheat contains gluten and in my opinion, gluten is easily one of the most damaging substances that people routinely put into their bodies. I too have wheat sensitivities, along with refined sugar “sensitivities” and animal protein “sensitivities”. I don’t even want to imagine what my body would go through if I ate any of those things. In my opinion everyone has wheat sensitivities, however, we’ve adapted so much to taking in these toxins over the generations that millions of humans feel they can handle these poisons without a problem. I used to eat wheat without sensing any problems. However, I have now brought my body back to a far “cleaner” state and I suspect that I would be seriously unwell if I ate wheat.
On a final note, many people think that being this ‘sensitive’ is a weakness. In my opinion, becoming sensitive is not becoming ‘weak’. Would you eat rat poison? You are not a weak person because you can’t handle eating rat poison. It’s the same thing here; I see gluten as similar to rat poison. In the words of Herbert Shelton:
