HOW DO I GET STARTED EATING RAW? WHAT DO I EAT EACH DAY?
Please remember that above all, this lifestyle can be about simplifying, rather than getting into complicated messes in our heads about how to eat this way.
There is no need to intellectualise about food choices – no other animal does that. With this being said however, we understand that especially in the beginning, this lifestyle is such a big shift compared to what most people are used to, that it can feel very challenging…

I recommend that you start eating at least 50% raw and take it from there – start with the things you like, add in more as you find more things that you like. If you feel willing/able to remove the most toxic/processed foods from your intake at the same time, then all the better – i.e. refined sugars and processed starches – breads, pasta, pizza, cookies, cake etc…

Raw foods that might be good for breakfast: you might enjoy just having fruit, or making a ‘green smoothie’ – a blend of fruit, leafy green vegetables and water in a high-speed blender, or maybe you’d like raw muesli/grawnola – there are many choices A site such as http://www.goneraw.com could be a great resource for you to find raw food recipes and inspiration…
Lunch might be a blended soup with some crackers, dinner might be a big salad with avocado, or nori rolls stuffed with avo and veggies. Snacks might be fresh fruit/veggies, packaged raw bars or other goodies, dried fruit rolls etc.
I’d also strongly suggest that you connect with other people on this path for support and guidance – sites such as http://www.giveittomeraw.com are a great place to meet others and share ideas.

I imagine that yes, indeed, eating raw could certainly help – it can help with a vast range of issues, because all this lifestyle really involves is getting back to nature and simplicity, finding alignment with a natural way of eating. Once the body is receiving fuel it can actually USE to heal itself, it goes to work straight away, reaching towards optimal health.
To get here from Quito, the capital, people usually take a domestic flight from Quito to Loja with TAME airline (abt 1 hour flight) – Loja is the nearest big town to Vilcabamba, with an airport, then one takes some kind of vehicle from Loja to Vilcabamba, which takes abt 90 mins – taxi/bus etc… Other people take buses all the way from Quito to here, which I think takes around 16 hours – we’ve never done that…
Vilcabamba is a very small town – jobs/niches are smthg one might create here rather than try to find employment – some people here (like us), work online, some people run hotels/cafes, some are massage therapists and so on – all depends on your skill base, interests etc …and life here is very inexpensive, so income doesn’t necessarily ‘need’ to be that huge, especially once you’re set up on land with food growing I’d think you could live comfortably on $300-$500 a month if you chose to, here… No need for heating or air conditioning either – it’s like spring here all year round.

In regards to skin issues/’sagging skin’, personally, I have not had any skin surgically removed since losing around 160lbs. My skin is healing naturally – it is a slow process, but I see this completely as a matter of choice and that I could be making no better choice in terms of healing than living raw.
The process is different for everyone and depends on how old you are, the elasticity in your skin, how fast you lose the weight, what you do to support the skin during weight loss and so on… I discuss many things around this issue – skin care, useful foods and teas, exercise etc – and detox in general in my book ‘Revealing the Physical Changes’, which you can see here:
Things that are great to use on the skin are:

OR Vitamin E oil…
PLUS rebounding, dry skin brushing, hot-cold showering, light weight lifting, poi dancing and so on…
As for stretch marks, I’m not sure that the marks are likely to ever completely go, but they will definitely fade and again, you can use oils and creams to help rebuild and support the skin.
Apparently JUNIPER oil is amazing for helping tone up skin and fade stretch marks – you can get a little bottle of it and mix it into any base oil, like jojoba for example…
I developed a hypothyroid condition at the age of 11 – my metabolism slowed down and I started to gain weight. I started taking thyroid medication and was on a high dosage of Thyroxine – 150mcg a day – for over a decade; I thought I was ‘on it for life’. However, I stopped taking medication for my thyroid ‘cold turkey’ (or ‘cold cucumber’, if you prefer when I went raw and am now naturally balanced. I saw a homoeopath at the beginning of my raw journey. I took various remedies from her – iodium, thyroidinum and some others, for around six months; homoeopathic remedies differ for everyone though, so I definitely recommend connecting with a homoeopath if you intend to take remedies.
These days I take sea kelp supplements (ideally around 1500mg a day) to supply iodine support for my thyroid. I also eat 100% raw, including plenty of seaweeds and my thyroid is completely naturally balanced.
Things to help an underactive thyroid:
Avoid cruciferous veg, soy and standard table salt, take kelp tablets daily, eat seaweeds daily if possible, use maca, goji berries and chia seeds, use a shower filter to keep the flouride and chlorine away from you and so on – lots of tips in my book ‘Revealing the Physical Changes’:
TAKE GREAT CARE OF YOUR COLON AND INTESTINAL FLORA.
Candida overgrowths do not tend to be the most popular subject to talk about, but I like to go into it, because it is an issue I frequently see people dealing with when they adopt raw vegan lifestyles.
Candida albicans is a fungus that everyone has on and in their bodies. Issues arise when this fungus grows out of control and takes over. Typical symptoms include digestive upset, yeast infections and skin rashes.
Candida thrives primarily on carbohydrates and sugars. Thus, most people with a history of overeating those foods will be dealing with candida issues. (Many people also have candida overgrowth from extended use of antibiotics.)
As explained in the ‘My Story’ section on my website, I experienced very unpleasant candida overgrowth issues in my first years raw. This is why I like to give guidance on this topic – it was such a challenging time for me and I want to help others take simple precautions to avoid such situations. There are a number of things we can do to avoid candida overgrowth, or deal with an already established overgrowth. It really all comes down to your colon health and the balance of the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ flora in there.
If you are taking good care of your colon health and keeping up with all the detox waste that is being thrown out of your cells into the colon, you are less likely to run into imbalances. However, if your colon is getting backed-up with a slew of fermenting, messy, dense food combinations, coupled with cell detox waste from going raw, you’re in more of a sticky situation. If you’re not taking care to keep all that waste moving out of you, it’s much easier for your intestinal flora to get out of balance and the candida to overgrow. With that in mind, obviously colon cleansing can help play a big part in helping people avoid candida overgrowths, especially in the beginning.
Most of us are nowhere near optimal health when we start out on a raw food journey and we can use all the help we can get to help turn around our degenerative state of health. Some raw people are ‘against’ the idea of colon cleansing, as they do not see it as ‘natural’. While I can resonate with the fact that almost no other animal on this planet seems to engage in colon cleansing (except some birds), I also see that no other animal species is as far from nature and ‘degenerative’ as us. (Aside from the animals, such as pets, who we feed other-than-natural foods.)
So, colon cleansing may not seem ‘natural’ and yet, given how far we’ve come from ‘natural’ as a species and as individuals, it seems almost like ‘cutting off our noses to spite our faces’ to NOT colon cleanse when going raw. Most of us are packed with old toxins. The average person is said to hold 5-10 LBS of old waste in their bodies. Going raw means you’re giving your body the permission and the fuel to start to clear that stuff out. Now, you can do it without colon cleansing, but why would you if you know that by doing the colon cleansing, you can help your body release that stuff faster and avoid running into fermentation and candida overgrowth issues? Some people also oppose colon cleansing as they believe it is ‘habit-forming’. Here’s what Dr. Ann Wigmore has to say on that matter:
“I have heard people say that enemas are habit forming. I find this conception to be absurd. Considering the condition of the diseased colon, I cannot think of any better habit to have.”
(Rebuild Your Health, pg 71.)
ALL illnesses, diseases and detox symptoms can all basically be thought of as the result of the same thing – a toxic system.
Your body is overloaded with things it’s trying to deal with and tries to let you know about it through the different symptoms. Clear out the toxicity and the symptoms vanish. Colon cleansing is like the fast-track to clearing out that stuff, so why not go for it?
I would recommend that anyone starting out on a raw path does a series of colonics in the beginning. One session every month for 4 to 6 months is likely to be a good start and your colon hydrotherapist can tell you more as you begin to see the results. This will help enormously with the initial detox and release of waste and you’ll usually be much less likely to encounter candida issues. After an initial series like this, you can do a colonic perhaps once every few months or so to maintain good balance in your colon and clear more waste. Doing enemas or using a colema board at home will be beneficial too for cleansing. You might want to do an enema once every seven to ten days or so, to keep things moving. As and when you reach a point of feeling balanced and very ‘clean’ inside from old waste, that seems to me to be the time you might perhaps decide that colon hydrotherapy doesn’t really feel so natural to you anymore and you’d rather let your body now deal with the normal flow of waste by itself. Avoiding the useful tool of colon hydrotherapy at the beginning of your raw adventure though seems to me like a missed opportunity to make things much easier on yourself.
Aside from colon hydrotherapy, dealing with candida tends to be a three-pronged approach:
Foods to Avoid
If you are dealing with candida overgrowth, I would recommend minimising the amount of sugars you are taking into your body, at least for a few weeks. This will help to starve down the candida population.
Avoid concentrated sweeteners (e.g. honey, agave, molasses) in particular, along with any starches, sugary foods, alcohol, mushrooms, cheeses and vinegar. This approach, combined with the other suggestions here, can help get you rapidly back into balance.
Aloe vera juice/gel and coconut oil are very supportive for the colon and intestinal flora. They are soothing, balancing, healing and nourishing. Drinking greeeeeeeeen vegetable juices will also help your system to balance.
Strong anti-fungal agents like fresh garlic, pau d’arco, oil of oregano, tea tree oil and grapefuit seed extract (GSE) will help deal with unwieldy candida issues. These are more ‘combative’ and direct in approach than the more soothing/nourishing/preventative options like aloe and coconut oil.
These are very useful for both avoiding and healing candida overgrowths. Probiotics help nourish and nurture the ‘good’ flora in your intestines. You can take probiotic supplements like acidophilus or bifidus blends, as capsules or powders. You can also get nourishing probiotic action straight from your foods by consuming things such as sauerkraut, fermented seed cheeses and rejuvelac.
For high quality probiotic supplements, I recommend the Premium Grade Probiotics available in The Raw Food World online store. Taken daily, probiotics will help your intestinal flora to stay in balance throughout detox, or get things back into balance if you experience issues.
Other things that can help heal a candida overgrowth include being in a hot, dry climate, rather than damp or humid. Spending time with the skin exposed to the sun – candida is a fungus that thrives in dark, damp conditions – direct sunlight helps destroy it.
Wearing cotton/natural underwear rather than nylon/synthetic. Wearing loose, rather than tight-fitting underwear/clothes.
Also, please consider this paragraph:
I feel concern too if I see raw foodists eating large amounts of fruit and not being very physically active. Eating fruit necessitates activity. It is energy food in the body. Fruit is fuel for moving through jungle…not sitting sedentary at a desk.
If you eat lots of fruit, you must be willing to MOVE, or to otherwise experience cloudy health, an acidic body, likely candida overgrowths, possible tooth decay, hair loss and fat retention.
If you’re not willing/able to be active, then a greener/fatter diet is likely more optimal for you. Especially if dealing with a background of sugar imbalance/diabetes/candida etc.
There are a number of things to consider in this situation: the main thing, in my opinion, is colon cleansing. Do you do much colon cleansing? Are you keeping up with the toxins being dumped out into your colon/system? If not, doing a colonic, or even enemas at home will surely help you move things along.
If you’re not eating totally raw, what else are you eating that is not raw? This is a huge area to think about; if you leave in toxic foods like processed starches and refined sugars even a little, you are not giving your body the chance to take healing to the next level. This is KEY to losing weight: cut those processed ‘foods’ out completely and you will almost certainly start to see results.
Exercise is another major part of the picture – are you very active? Raw foods can help us to remove excess weight so easily in the beginning because we’re coming into alignment more with nature and NOT eating ‘plastic’ foods anymore that clog us up and debilitate us. Once that major excess has come off though, we’re more into the territory of ‘maintenance’ and in simple physical terms, if more stuff’s going in than is being used up through activity in a day, you might see a plateau. Getting active and preferably sweating every day is GREAT Rebounding is something I love, dancing, biking…hot/bikram yoga is said to be great for thyroid issues. Getting the metabolism UP, kicked, moving, heart rate up, and so on all help.
Other things to consider: avoid eating late at night. You might find it useful to eat small amounts, consistently throughout the day, rather than LARGE meals. You might find if useful to eat simple food combinations – e.g. no more than five ingredients in any meal (mono-mealing’s great too, though not so much fun if not eating fruit Also, eat mainly fresh, water-content-rich foods (i.e. not dried fruits, nuts, packed, dehydrated foods etc).
Eating fats later at night is not advisable if you are interested in losing weight. Eat your heavier foods in the middle of the day for easier assimilation, weight loss and a lighter feeling. Your digestion is strongest in the middle of the day and slows towards night. Also, combining many different fats in one meal is not ideal in terms of digestion and weight loss…
The further we go along the raw path, the more we detox and the more sensitive we become; it seems that this all tends to be rather misunderstood in raw food circles and can create some real issues for people. For example, if people Juice Feast, then afterwards go back to eating how they ate before, they can gain weight/see heath issues easily, as their body had gone to a new space of health with the Juice Feast – they can’t eat that old way anymore without issues.
The body truly needs very little food to thrive, compared to the way most people eat…and the longer you’re raw, the less food your body wants, for optimal health. There’s no healthy way around that. I’d strongly recommend you read my partner Matt’s book ‘Raw Success‘ if you haven’t already – or read some of the free articles on his site HERE if you prefer; this will hopefully make some of the physical aspects of what happens to us when we go raw more clear.

Changes in the menstrual cycle are common with women who start eating more raw…I am of course not a ‘doctor’ and don’t give medical guidance…I will say this though, my personal experience is that during 8 years of eating raw, my periods have become lighter and easier over time and often I do not actually bleed; I still ovulate and go through the sensations of menstruating, but may not actually bleed. This seems to be very common with raw women. We are still fertile – we just don’t bleed, or very little. The bleeding seems to actually be a detox route for the body, so we could conclude that as women become ‘cleaner’ with a raw lifestyle, one result is that they don’t bleed as much. In many tribes around the world, women apparently do not bleed at all, or very small amounts and they are completely fertile and functional Maca can be used to help regulate your hormones and pull your cycle into regularity if you’re concerned…see here:
If you are not bleeding, do not think you’re pregnant and feel concerned about your menses stopping, consider that your body may perhaps be in a state of ‘stress’ right now, or a state of intense change; these kinds of factors may have led the bleeding to cease… and it may come back again in a while. You can always seek guidance from a medical professional if you’re concerned about this.
Grow lots of your own sprouts, micro-greens and other foods. This can make getting live raw foods into your diet very cheap and practical – you can grow sprouts in particular wherever you are. Look out for reduced organic items in supermarkets, or start a bulk-buying coop with other like-minded people.
Buy filling/satiating, nutrient dense things in bulk or when you see offers, such as spirulina, nuts, chia seed or hemp protein powder…we have amazing ‘at cost’ sales on staple raw foods in our newsletters for example, every month at TheRawFoodWorld.com.
Learn to forage and gather your own food from the wild…
Volunteer your time at an organic farm/CSA/coop for a few hours a week, in return for good organic fruit/veg…or help out at a raw restaurant/facility if there’s any nearby…and yes, above all – GROW YOUR OWN FOOD
The question of whether to Juice Feast or go raw for weight loss really comes down to personal choice. Personally though, I would never recommend for someone to do a Juice Feast to lose weight – this could lead to many issues with metabolism and yo-yoing, further down the line.
Understand that Juice Feasting is a HIGHLY cleansing process; if you are in a very overweight, toxic body right now, JF (Juice Feasting) will be like ‘unplugging the sink’ BIG time. It would be an intense experience – one which, very likely will see you come out the other side into radiant health and a natural desire to eat predominantly raw, if you stick with it for a while – it’s like hitting the ‘reset’ button. Starting to EAT more raw is, in comparison, a gentler, slower approach, though the weight loss is usually still swift for people…it really comes down to what resonates most for you…

Aaaaaaaaaand – here is the answer to this, ‘THE’ most frequently asked question of any raw foodist, which I recently put together for my new book:
Where do you get your Protein?
Ahhhh, but of course…the all-time favourite question for raw foodists…
In our societies, we are ‘brainwashed’ into the idea that we need large quantities of protein, especially from meat and dairy products. This is all designed of course to support that industry. The suggested daily amounts of ‘protein’ are far in excess of what humans seem to actually require for optimal health. Protein is no more or less important than everything else we take in as nutrients. Take a look at any cow, gorilla or ox if you want confirmation. Those animals are huge power-houses and what do THEY eat? Steak? Hardly…they thrive on primarily simple plant foods…whereas in our societies, we humans often seem to struggle just to survive. Most people never make that connection and believe the hype about ‘needing protein’ in huge amounts. As David Wolfe puts it:
“The truth is no one ever suffers from a protein deficiency – and certainly no one ever dies from one. But people die of protein poisoning en masse every day. Heart attacks, strokes, cancer, etc. are all the inevitable results of overburdening the body with cooked animal proteins.”
The key point to understand here is that our bodies do not use protein from ‘heavy’ protein sources, like cooked meat, efficiently. These dense foods need to be broken down by our body into amino acids before they can be reconstructed into something the body can use. Our bodies build proteins from 20 amino acids, which are most abundant in GREENS. A raw vegan diet, rich in leafy green veg, can therefore more than provide for your protein needs. If you’re concerned, you can also always supplement your intake with an ultra-rich protein source such as hemp protein powder. Consider too the classic example of the gorilla, one of our closest relatives, who in the wild eats mostly greens and is a power-house of energy, muscle and strength. Greens are the key to vibrant health.
If you are concerned about your hair, I would strongly recommend that you pay attention to getting good protein sources to help your hair rebuild – spirulina, chlorella, bee pollen, hemp seeds and nuts could be great starting points. Most importantly, get green juices into your body daily, to help alkalise and balance.
I experienced a little ‘extra’ hair loss a few months after my 92-Day Juice Feast – nothing excessive, yet enough for me to notice the difference. To me this indicated an acid condition in the body and I addressed the situation by ensuring I had plenty of greens (esp. fresh green veggie juice daily), plus DENSER foods, like avocadoes, nuts, seeds, oils, spirulina, bee pollen and so on, to support and nourish the hair. I also choose to use water/shower filters wherever possible so as to not bring my hair and skin into contact with drying/stripping chemicals.
If you were to choose the 4-hour pack for example, we could check in once a week for 1/2 an hour over 8 weeks, or however you like, to keep the momentum flowing for you.

If you’re not familiar with Fred’s work, he has been raw for over 40 years and is a PhD Nutritionist. He has helped heal many thousands of people from degenerative disease over the last decades – cancer is one of his specialities.

All work along basically the same principles – lots of greens/juicing, colon cleansing, 100% raw, educating you about a raw lifestyle for life after your stay, helping you get into a sustainable new rhythm with exercise, food etc… They are all quite similar in terms of protocol, so it basically comes down to where you’d like to be for something like that if it is an option…or which place fits the budget They’re all great places and are all used to dealing with people with acute illnesses.

- Sprouted greens (especially sunflower greens, pea greens also clover, broccoli…)
- Wheat-grass and green juices
- Sprouting gluten-free grains (buckwheat, quinoa, millet, amaranth, teff…) and beans (azuki, mung beans, lentils…)
- Sprouted seeds & nuts
- Daily nut milk and smoothies made from it (with banana + bee pollen for example)
- Nutrient-dense fruits and veggies: lots of dark leafy greens, durian, bananas, yam juice with spirulina or carrot juice with spirulina….

Look into parasite cleansing: there might be a parasite in your intestinal tract preventing you from gaining weight – you might like the ‘Internal Parasite Formula’ from Healthforce – I used this and found it was very easy and effective to use – see:
…and of course, as ever, colon cleansing can be a HUGE help, to get any impacted old waste OUT of the colon/intestines, which is such a root cause of countless health issues. Regular colon cleansing could bring a lot of relief in this situation, freeing up the intestinal walls for better nutrient absorption. You may also choose to do nutritional implants via enemas, to help nutrients be absorbed directly through the colon wall into the bloodstream – e.g. add things such as spirulina powder, MSM powder, flax oil and so on to enema water (AFTER clearing the colon out first with a plain water enema), aim to hold the nutrient-rich solution in for as long as possible before releasing.

This is the most effective liver cleanse protocol I’ve ever done. The epsom salts are NOT easy to swallow (for me) – the liver will ultimately thank you for it though
Part of the liver cleanse is to do colon cleansing. This is INTEGRAL to helping the body move away from illness. In fact, JUST doing some colon hydrotherapy (without liver cleansing) can make a HUGE difference for people, just by itself.
Other things that you may find useful on a more day-to-day basis are dandelion and milk thistle – both are very useful for the liver (along with ANY bitter foods/bitter leafy greens). If you want to make it as easy as possible, I’d say get them in capsule format from somewhere if you can. Ideal would be to have them as TEAS from loose leaf – can be tricky to maintain though: capsules are easier to pop and go Even better would be fresh vegetable juice, with dandelion in it – WOOOO That would be great
You could help the liver release more gently in these ways: milk thistle, juices (dandelion, beet, cucumber etc all help the liver), castor oil packs over the liver, colonics, even coffee enemas if you feel pulled to do so Warm lemon water first thing in the mornings is reputed to act as a nice little flush for the liver and colon.
You may also enjoy doing this ‘mild liver cleanse’ drink for 4 or 5 days in a row and see how you get on with it:
Blend together in a blender:
Equal amounts of fresh water and fresh lemon juice
1 clove of garlic
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
It makes a creamy, frothy, ‘interesting’ tasting mixture that the liver appreciates Some people actually really like it (me included…)
Use that for maybe 4-5 days at a time, as a MILD liver cleanse (nowhere near as powerful as the Moritz cleanse above).

Aside from that, obviously try to get LOTS of leafy greens into the system – green JUICE preferably, or green smoothies would work too If you DO eat fruits, I would suggest eating LOW glycemic fruits in small amounts and combining them with nuts or chia seed to help slow the blood sugar uptake. Eating solids while Juice Feasting is definitely a choice…and it is not the same as doing a full-on Feast, as you’re not allowing your body to take a total break from digestion, to concentrate on elimination instead. Eating solids while JFing seems kind of like a ‘half-way’ point – which is of course absolutely FINE, if that’s what you want to do – it’s like being a semi-liquidarian for a while Indeed, many people choose this route, often labelling it a ‘modified Juice Feast’.
Modified Juice Feasts can be a great choice for some people and perhaps not so ideal for others; it really depends where you’re coming from, what you’re leaving out of your intake to do something like this and so on…there are several factors to consider.
If considering a ‘Modified Juice Feast’, I think it is key to identify where your motivation comes from in regards to this…and if it truly feels GREAT to you, then go with it. Take a look around the www.globaljuicefeast.com site for more ideas about this too.
I’d also perhaps suggest that if you were to do a ‘half-and-half’ solution like this, you might consider eating the solids earlier in the day and finishing off with juices later, as people tend to make healthier food choices earlier in the day and it will also save you from going to sleep on undigested heavy food

In terms of nut/seed milks, these are not usually included in Juice Feasts, as they would be acidifying, mucus-forming and contrary to what we are primarily looking to do, which is to cleanse. The same goes for coconut meat, which is also clearly a solid, not a liquid.
To break my Juice Feast, I used the Juice Feast Breaking Protocol, as outlined in the JF Handbook and that felt like a ‘life-saver’ for me, to get through the first week back on solids and transition smoothly into a totally solid world again. Without that structure, I think I would have found it very challenging…and indeed I know others who have done lengthy feasts/fasts, come out the other end and go into crazy binging, as they don’t use a structure like this and it all feels overwhelming… I know for myself that I absolutely function optimally when I have structure around my food intake – that’s why I recommend using food plans, as outlined in my book ‘How to Go Raw for Weight Loss’ – see here, if you haven’t already seen it:
I lost abt 18lbs while JFing, then regained abt 3lbs after – which felt fine… I was concerned about the process of going back to solids, yet the Feast-Breaking Protocol gave me structure for that first crucial week or so. From there, once I was feeling settled with solids again, I set out my three ‘tenets’ for eating, which I like to think of as under-pinners of the way I choose to eat now:
1. I drink fresh vegetable juice twice a day
2. I mono-meal fruits
3. I eat simple combinations
These guidelines help me keep things on track and focused. I got back to my daily practice of making my food plan in the mornings too and…all is well

A few quick juice recommendations:
- ‘chocolate milk’ – spinach/romaine/carrot
- celery/apple/cucumber/ginger – very light and refreshing
- pineapple with greens
- straight watermelon juice (with rind if organic)
You can make any juice combination you like that tastes good to you. There are a few basic ideas to follow while Juice Feasting, such as keeping melon juice separate from everything else and not using things like bananas, mango etc. that are far too dense to juice well.
The quantities of different vegetables you use in each juice combo is really up to you; do you want more sugar/more green etc…? This is why I don’t give quantities for juice recipes such as those above – I just suggest flavours/combos that go well together in my experience. You can experiment with what works best for you.
Well, again, I do *not* give medical guidance; I encourage everyone to judge for themselves when and if they feel that they have become ‘too skinny’ and if Juice Feasting, to cease the Feast at any point if they feel that is in their best interest.
In my experience, releasing weight is pretty much inevitable for anyone while Juice Feasting. If this is something that greatly concerns you, yet you would still like to Juice Feast, here are some ideas: drink LOTS of the things with more calories, e.g. coconut water, carrots, yams, berries, spinach etc…also focus well on the suggested supplements such as oils, algaes and bee pollen. You may even prefer to do a ‘Modified Juice Feast’, inclusing perhaps green smoothies or something as well, alongside juices…
I would also suggest seeking support from people who understand the process of detox and cleasning. Getting ‘very skinny’ is a common aspect of the detox process – I like to encourage people to think of it like wringing out a ‘dirty sponge’. Imagine a sponge being squeezed clean of all the toxins packed into it, then popping back into a healthier form from there, or rebuilding with healthy cells in the case of the human body.
Take a look at yourself in the mirror while Juice Feasting – what do you think of your appearance? Do you FEEL good? That is a key question to ask yourself…how are you feeling? You are regenerating and healing on all levels while Juice Feasting…you may seem to be a little skinnier than usual and others may be concerned, yet try to keep YOUR focus about why you’re doing this and enjoy it…
There are many different types of juicers and the ‘best’ one for you will depend on your needs. We like to suggest to people that the ideal juicer for them is the juicer they are actually going to USE, rather than store in their kitchen cupboards With that in mind, here are some thoughts about different kinds of juicers:
There are centrifugal juicers (e.g. Omega 9000), centrifugal ejection (e.g. Omega 4000, Breville Juice Fountain), masticating (e.g. Champion), single auger (e.g. Omega 8001 and Hurom), and twin gear (e.g. Green Power, Green Star).
We will start with the twin gear juicers. They have the highest nutrient quality and get the most juice out of the produce. They usually cost about $400-$500. They make very high quality juice that will keep well for abt 24 hours or more, if stored in sealed glass jars in a fridge. They leave dry pulp from the produce, perform great with leafy greens and are not particularly tough to clean. Many people *love* the Green Star – check that out HERE:
Our other favourites are the Hurom/Omega VRT330 vertical single auger juicers. The single auger juicers are great for wheatgrass and greens. However, the juice comes out pulpier than if using a twin gear. You can just strain the juice easily with a nut milk bag, like we do, unless you appreciate a bit more fibre in your juice These machines take less muscle power to operate than a twin gear, so the juicing process is faster and easier. Clean up time is about the same as a twin gear.

The Champion is great for fruit, carrots, and many other things. These machines are known as ‘work-horses’, which people use for many decades without replacement. Some people claim that these juicers heat up the juice however, especially if leafy greens are used. We like to get the most juice out of our produce and the highest nutrient quality too, so that is why we prefer the twin gear or single auger juicers.

The centrifugal ejection juicer is another good choice, IF you choose a reliable brand. The pulp however, usually comes out very wet with these kinds of juicers and you end up with clumps of unjuiced greens. The Breville Juice Fountain is the best centrifugal ejection juicer in our experience. It is a smooth, fast juicing experience. You can insert a lot of vegetables at one time and/or whole apples and so on, as the feed tube is HUGE. A centrifugal juicer without the ejection feature is usually very challenging to use, because while you are juicing you have to frequently stop, to empty the machine out…so be careful if you are shopping around with different centrifugal models other than the Breville Juice Fountain.

Costa Rica…I’d recommend you check out either the Dominical area on the west coast OR the Puerto Viejo area on the east coast, which has more of a ‘Caribbean/island’ vibe – more laid back…OR the Pacha Mama community on the Nicoya peninsula might be interesting to explore too – it’s a high-raw community…
Outside the capital, organics are a little tricky to come by, unless you know a grower and get your produce directly…the areas I mentioned above are more likely to be useful for you to find good produce. I would also recommend stocking up in the capital – San Jose – and taking stuff with you on trips elsewhere.
Plenty of people certainly do start their raw journeys with a Juice Feast… I believe that overall the transition into a raw lifestyle can be made easier for people by doing a Juice Feast first; it is like experiencing a huge disconnect from solids, a long period of time during which to examine your relationship with food, learn new things abt a raw life and so on. Much can shift in this timeframe and it is a lot easier then, in many ways, for people to come out the other side, detoxed and ‘cleaner’, more ready to eat raw, rather than to try to shift from a SAD (Standard American Diet), into raw, slowly and via food. There can be more stumbling blocks for people that way, as they deal with cravings, yo-yoing and so on.
The crux of all this however falls on whether you can get yourself into a Juice Feast and settled in it; that is the real challenge. Once you are IN to the Feast, past the first three days especially, you will almost certainly start to feel great and love it and likely not want to be back on solids. Yet getting past that initial hurdle tends to be a big step – especially for those coming from a SAD background – so, that’s smthg to consider.

This vitamin is essential for red blood cell formation, energy and nerve function. It is found primarily in western food sources in meat and dairy produce, so vegans often have low levels of it. Deficiency can lead to exhaustion, dizziness and blackouts. Other symptoms of B12 deficiency include anxiety, pale skin, blurred vision, poor memory, constipation and in severe cases, anaemia and nerve damage. It’s a controversial issue and some suggest there are in fact no reliable vegan sources of B12.
As for me, I feel like I do now get some B12 from the foods I eat – (algaes, seaweeds etc) plus I rarely wash my fruit and veg – I like having some soil/micro-organisms in there to help my system produce B12 and thrive
I also take good care of my colon, through both consuming probiotics and doing colon cleansing, which means my internal flora produce B12 for me too. To be certain I’m getting all that I need, I also take a B12 supplement regularly, which I feel is like my ‘back up’ in case the foods and internal flora really aren’t working.
A couple of years into my raw journey, I actually experienced a serious B12 deficiency. At that time, my food intake was quite unbalanced, I was doing no colon cleansing and taking no B12 supplement. I was pale, dizzy and low in energy and ended up having blood tests to determine the cause, after a fainting spell. After discovering I had a low B12 count, I started taking supplements and my health improved rapidly.
Yes, you can use any kind of enema bag; the cheap plastic ones from pharmacies can work just fine… There are also larger more ‘professional’ enema bags available, which hold 4 or 6 quarts. I use one of these 4 quart bags now, which is great; using these bags can almost be like having a colonic in terms of the depth of cleansing they can help you reach – pretty impressive
According to Dr. Ann Wigmore, all ‘allergies’ are a result of toxemia in the body – i.e. you have a back-up of toxins in the body and detox work to do. The body is not able to efficiently use and assimilate the things you are giving it because there is still so much old waste to release, blocking the walls of the intestines, clogging your system.
Two suggestions I would have for you would be 1) to do an ear-candling session to relase old waste from your sinus cavities. 2) Get a professional colonic done (or preferably a SERIES of them). This will help ENORMOUSLY to release old waste matter and move your body forward in detox. There are many other detox routes that may help you too, like daily rebounding, saunas, foot patches, salt srcubs and so on – the colon hydrotherapy is the KEY treatment to seek though, in terms of releasing old waste.
Hmmmmmm…to be honest, I don’t feel very excited about the Master Cleanser (MC) fasting plan… For a start, it recommends to use maple syrup or molasses to cleanse, neither of which are usually raw. Even if one replaces those with raw honey or smthg else raw, the glycemic content is very high.
What MOSTLY concerns me about the MC however is that it seems to be very low in nutrients; it basically involves drinking sugary spicy water. Now, for some people it is a useful tool because they’re coming from a background of such toxicity and eating a lot of ‘junk’ foods, so merely the fact that they’re not eating those kind of things and are giving the body a break from digesting solids is going to bring them huge healing. However, personally I would SOOO much rather see someone do a cleanse on vegetable juices than the Master Cleanser recipe, as then they are experiencing the benefits of ceasing ingestion of those processed ‘foods’ and getting a break from solids, plus getting in MASSES of nutrients from the veggie juices at the same time – this seems like a much better deal to me
Another concern I have about the MC is that I often see people use it as a kind of ‘escape hatch’ from unhealthy eating patterns. For example, someone might eat a ‘messy’ intake for weeks on end, then go into Master Cleansing, then yo-yo out of the other side of that, straight into other-than-optimal eating again. This just doesn’t seem very balanced to me; I’d rather see people eat a balanced, healthy, high-raw intake regularly, using veggie juicing to cleanse periodically…
Many people enjoy the MC though and seem to get good results from it…so…the choice, as ever, is yours as to whether to do some MC-ing or not. Yes, most people find that their bowel movements become much more regular when they go raw. Usually the stools start to have a much less ‘offensive’ odour and are smoother, easier to pass and lighter in colour than most people are used to. Foods such as chia and flax seeds can help a lot with bowel regularity if this is smthg that concerns you.
Herbal teas work well for me. Not all raw fooders drink teas hot though, for the same reasons they don’t cook food. I like warm tea however and find the healing properties very useful, as well as the simple physical warming factor of taking smthg warm into the body.
My ideal is to make fresh tea myself, with fresh herbs. I love making ‘sun tea’ especially, where the water and herbs are warmed by the sun… Other than that, I look for organic teas from companies who seem to put a lot of love into their products, e.g. the flowering teas, Numi etc…my choices really come down to whatever I feel good about
Here are some ideas: drink warm drinks like herbal tea or warmed nut milk; perhaps try having warmed soups too – if you can keep your finger in a warmed soup without pain, it’s likely not too hot for the enzymes in there.
Maybe try warmed foods straight from a dehydrator too. Eat ‘warming’ foods such as hot peppers, cayenne and ginger, eat plenty of ‘heavier’/denser foods such as nuts, seeds, avocados etc. Dress very warm, get good exercise to get your circulation going, such as rebounding… smile
I would also feel sceptical about the raw qualities of any macadamia nuts in bulk sections… I would think many walnuts, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds could be ok… To be honest, I would be suspicious of them all though and wouldn’t suggest relying on store workers for direct answers – many do not seem to really know what is ‘raw’ or not… I think your best bet would be to buy from people you KNOW have high quality products…
Yes, some things were challenging for me back in the beginning of being raw…I wasn’t totally raw for the first two years (about 70-80%) and one result was that sometimes I would go on crazy binges with things such as standard garlic bread or chocolate cake, for example… With hindsight, I can see that this was primarily because I did not remove the most toxic food groups, such as processed starches and refined sugars, quickly and COMPLETELY from my food intake. I was still having bits of these foods here and there, so I kept my system in the cycle of addiction to these highly toxic substances. I also was not doing any colon cleansing at that time, as I did not yet know about the great importance of colon care for overall health.
So, I really wasn’t helping myself much in terms of detox and getting away from toxins in the beginning. In fact, my body was trying to release masses of old waste as fast as possible and I was just letting the waste sit there in my system and re-tox me over and over again, rather than doing some colon cleansing.
Socially it was a little challenging at times for me in the beginning too, with teasing, questions and concerns from people around me…I knew I wanted to be on this path though and stuck with it…and as others saw the changes in me, the teasing faded out…
In many ways, it was also an easy journey for me, as the transformation was SO rapid in terms of my weight loss in particular that I felt very inspired and motivated to keep on going. There were other nice perks too, like suddenly, within a month of going raw, having my first boyfriend in 5 years…
That being said, in the beginning of being raw, many people do find that they can pretty much eat ‘anything’ as long as it’s raw and still begin to heal, release excess weight and so on, as it’s what they’re not eating that brings the healing (e.g. they have cut out the toxic processed foods).
People are often coming from a background of eating a lot of dense, numbing foods, so when they start to eat raw, they may be looking to find that familiar feeling of satiation, both physically and emotionally…and hence they may seem to be eating a LOT, in relative terms…waaaaaay more than someone a few years down the line of living raw would likely be eating, in comparison. Personally for example, I felt like I was eating almost non-stop at the start of my raw journey – my jaws ached from all the chewing I would be an absolute wreck if I tried to eat much these days as I did back in the beginning
If you do start out eating ‘a lot’ at the beginning of your raw journey, in the long-run you can certainly benefit from paying more attention to your intake and being more focused. For most people this happens naturally; the longer you’re raw, the less the body ‘accepts’ complicated meals. The body asks for simplicity and moves always towards simpler combinations and optimal health
Maybe It really depends on what you’re consuming… People often seem to think in terms of adding things IN to their food intake to assist their health – e.g. someone who eats a Standard American Diet might think “I’ll eat some blueberries, that will be good for me”. However it doesn’t really work that way – eating more raw foods can certainly help to a degree, yet it’s what you leave out that really helps most people heal. So, by eating totally raw, for example, you leave out all the toxic processed and cooked ‘foods’ and your body can start to heal.
There is no ‘need’ to eat 100% raw to be healthy though – many people eat an ‘intermediate’, healthy intake of whole foods, straight from the Earth, some cooked, some raw. The main point to understand is that removing toxic, highly processed, man-made ‘foods’ is what can really help you to heal…my partner Matt Monarch writes a lot about this subject – you might enjoy reading his book “Raw Spirit” for example, which has a food plan to follow for healthy “Intermediate” lifestyles – see here:
Personally, I pay little attention to calorie content in food. Caloric value seems like an isolated, ‘left-brain’ piece of information about food, that is only a small part of the whole picture, yet it is smthg that people often seem to put a lot of attention/focus towards, especially in the context of constraining their intake. I am more interested overall to know how you/I/anyone feels about the foods that are being taken into the body; this to me is the key, the most essential part of the picture. Do you FEEL good about what you’re eating? Are you feeling balanced, at peace, happy etc? Or are you fixated and anxious?
This all being said, however, if for example you only intake around 1000 calories a day, as an adult, that does not sound like it is necessarily optimal for your sustained health. If someone feels they struggle to consume more SOLIDS, then I highly recommend including more VEGGIE juices – this is a way to get more calories and more importantly, more nutrients in a very absorbable form. Romaine/spinach/carrot juice – ‘chocolate milk’ – is an excellent starting point, as an example.
Mmmm…I would be very wary of pesticides on fresh produce in India – choose fresh produce with THICK skins, like papaya, pineapple etc…fresh organic greens are likely to be an issue to obtain in most places…
I would recommend getting a LOT of coconuts into you in India and travelling with a whole JAR of green powder at least, to keep greened up for the trip (green powder can be tipped out into a zip-lock bag for easier travelling)… Dried foods like gojis, chia seeds, seaweeds etc would be wise choices to travel with too most likely…
There has been and may still be a raw food cafe in Goa…I would also recommend you head over to Solitude farm in Auroville, in the south. It is a big organic farm run by Krishna/Duncan – the son of a wonderful friend of ours from the UK, Jeanette. They grow and feed everyone who visits – all organic, bio-dynamic, amazing stuff…NOT a great deal of greens still probably, but at least organic and conscious… There might be more contacts on sites such as sunfoodtraveler.com, rawplanet.com and giveittomeraw.com.
Things that may strengthen and help your teeth are to use natural tooth products that do not contain glycerin, e.g. the ‘Tooth Soap’ products we sell or food grade hydrogen peroxide can be great used in a 11:1 ratio with pure water. Eating black crystal salt from India/Pakistan has been reported to also strengthen and support tooth health.
If you ingest citrus, wait 20 minutes after eating/drinking and then brush. This gives a chance for the enamel to build up stronger. Brushing too soon causes enamel eroding. And not brushing at all can cause the enamel to be eaten away.
Other than that, getting PLENTY of green leafy vegetables into the body is KEY for getting lots of calcium into your system that can be used effectively by the body…plus sesame seeds/tahini/figs are all great for calcium…
Teeth can be thought of like ‘bone’ material – just like other bones can heal, so can the teeth, given the chance; we can support that process with mineral-dense foods, not using toothpastes that coat the teeth with glycerin and so on.
It can be easy to eat raw on the road, IF you do a little preparation. Prepare yourself with heavier/dense/dried things like nuts, (chia) seeds, dried fruit, green powder, seaweeds, bee pollen and so on, then grab fresh produce, juices and smoothies as and when you can. Simple meals like picking up a salad and an avocado at a health food store can help enormously. You might also want to get a little ‘personal’ blender or smthg similar to travel with to make dips/sauces/smoothies etc…
If it comes down to making a choice between conventional and organic foods when travelling, personally I would choose non-organic fresh raw produce over processed/cooked foods, even if they are organic. This of course comes down to personal preference though and you may be able to find simple cooked organic vegetables for example that you feel good about. If buying non-organic produce, try to focus on items that have thicker skins, such as avocadoes, papaya, pineapple.
If you move from total junk food to completely raw overnight, that is a HUGE demand on your body in terms of detox…in this context, I would recommend taking very good care of your colon. With this kind of beginning, enemas DAILY will help your detoxing process enormously.
Many people end up swinging between a completely raw diet and other foods, as being totally raw feels ‘too restrictive’ to them in the beginning. I encourage being gentle with yourself – take it slowly – this path does not have to be all-or-nothing… Taking baby steps on your raw journey is much more likely to help you stay on this path in the long run.

We prefer the Blendtec blenders with the 4″ blade carafes – this seems to be the most efficient combination. The Blendtec is slightly more powerful than the Vitamix and has a wider base, meaning it’s easier to get food out of the bottom. One advantage with a Vitamix is that it comes with a ‘plunger’ that goes through the lid and lets you push down the food while it’s blending, for ease of mixing.
Juicer — Top of the range in most cases is going to be a ‘twin-gear’ juicer such as the Green Star, which makes very high quality juice. We also LOVE the horizontal single auger juicers, such as the Hurom. Some people really enjoy the Breville Juice Fountain too, as it is fast and user-friendly. In the end the best juicer for you tends to be the one that you’re actually going to USE…
Dehydrators — I’d go with an Excalibur; 5-tray if you’re making stuff just for 1 or 2 people or don’t have much space for a machine. 9-tray if you have more mouths to feed. I’d recommend also getting teflex sheets for the trays – these are used for making things like cookies, fruit leathers, crackers etc, so that the mixture doesn’t drip through the trays…

Spiral Slicer — There are two kinds of ‘Spiral Slicers’ – the Saladecco and the Spirooli – both allow you to make raw ‘pasta’, using things such as zucchini, sweet potatoes and so on… The Saladecco is smaller and produces finer ‘angel hair pasta’, the Spirooli is larger and produces bigger ‘pasta’. I prefer the larger machine, personally, however my husband prefers the smaller machine…

Food Processor — The other main thing people look for is a quality food processor, to make SUPER FAST food preparation for salads, salsas, pates, nut cheeses and so on…

Eating raw ‘locally’ through winter is of course possible, though may be a challenge, depending on where you are and which resources you have access to…no matter where you are though, I believe that eating raw locally through winter can be experienced, if that is something you choose to pursue…some definite useful foods are going to be sprouts, dried foods, foraged items and fermented foods. If you have a greenhouse or something similar, you can even be growing things all through the winter in there.
Anyone can grow and use their own sprouts, for example, no matter where they live or what time of year it is – even in isolation on a hillside with nothing growing outside on the land, you can have an abudance of live greeeeeen food right there in your kitchen, all year round, for pennies on the dollar – it doesn’t get much more local than your own kitchen…
Here are written directions too:
Take a cup or so of soft wheat berries, soak overnight in clean water. Then drain that water away and let them sprout for 2 days – rinsing them at least twice a day to keep clean/moist. Then put in a BIG glass jar and cover with lots of water – perhaps 2 litres or more. Leave to sit for 2 days, fermenting. Not somewhere very hot or cold, no direct sunlight. Then after those 2 days, you have your first batch. Pour it off, put in fridge. Cover the berries with water again – 24 hours later you have your next batch. Same again – 24 hours later, 3rd and final batch. So, you’ll get at least 6 litres from one load of berries…then you can throw the berries for the birds

There are *lots* of different products out there for all kinds of cleansing – one could spend many $$$thousands on different products. If I were you, I would just find a good colon hydrotherapist or enema bag and get cleansing that way.

I don’t find it at all expensive to eat the way I do. My life shifted a lot when I went raw; my priorities changed and now getting the best quality, nutrient-rich foods as my fuel is one of my priorities. I see eating this way as an investment in my health/longevity…
If you’re looking to reduce costs, I’d recommend sprouting/growing your own food, joining a local coop/box scheme, volunteering in return for organic foods and so on.
The amount of time I devote to food shopping and food prep has always depended on where I am located, as I have travelled a LOT in my life. Sometimes I like to be more ‘domestic’, sometimes it’s much more a case of ‘eating-on-the-run’, for weeks on end…I always eat totally raw though…just with varying degrees of simplicity… Raw food preparation can be as easy or as gourmet and complex as you choose – it is all a matter of choice
However, I am also aware that this kind of intention often seems to shift dramatically for women when they actually GET pregnant, so, I will see what unfolds…
Right now I cannot imagine wanting to eat anything other than raw…so, we’ll see how it goes… I believe that it would feel very odd to give any child of mine anything to eat other than raw foods…they will of course have their own journey to explore as they grow up, however I’d love to give them what I would consider the healthiest start possible…

Soya milk…hmmmmmm…I would not recommend it. Soya is rarely organic – it’s almost always genetically modified in fact. It is also very unbalancing for the body in terms of hormones, as it is VERY high in estrogen; it is not at all recommended for people with thyroid issues especially. Aside from all that, nearly ALL soy milk is cooked/pasteurised, so it is not a raw product.
I would recommend you make your own nut/seed milks instead – this is very easy to do and the milks will be fresh, vital and delicious. Almond milk is a standard favourite for raw foodies – you can see how to make it on my recipes page here:

Of course, the question of whether soya drinks are ‘good for someone’ depends entirely on where that person is coming from in terms of their current food intake. For example, if someone uses soya milk as a stepping stone away from pasteurised dairy, towards healthier choices, then that could be considered useful and a ‘good choice’ for them. However, for someone who has been eating raw for a long time, drinking soya milk would surely feel very toxic, processed and unpleasant.
I used to drink kombucha frequently some years back, near the start of my raw journey, when I was making the drink myself…I very much enjoyed it. Then my travelling lifestyle became not so conducive to making my own kombucha, so I stopped.
Some years later, Mr.Monarch and I did a talk in Montreal and the people catering the event were selling AMAZING handmade kombucha that they’d been producing with a great deal of love. We tried it and really enjoyed it at first, so we bought some bottles and enjoyed it for a while, however, we soon started to feel *drunk* from it and unwell. We ended up giving it all away, as we realised we’d both become too sensitive over the years to be able to handle this drink anymore
I feel even less enthusiastic about the bottled kombuchas available in many health stores these days – they seem pretty ‘acidic’ to me…and overall, I am far more interested in water, fresh raw juices and smoothies and so on than kombucha…we might try a little kombucha here and there on occasion, however it is definitely not a regular part of our intakes anymore.
Yes, there were times during my weight loss process that things seemed to slow down or stop completely. Important keys for me at these times were taking an HONEST look at how much I was eating/which combinations etc, addressing issues such as eating late at night, working with a food plan rather than just eating ‘randomly’, doing more exercise, taking a break from eating solids for a while – e.g. juice f(e)asting, to give my body a break from digestion, moving the focus to elimination instead and giving me time/space to re-address my relationship with food and so on.
The MOST imortant recommendation I could share though for anyone dealing with a ‘plateau’ would be colon hydrotherapy – this is absolutely key for helping your body with the detox process and moving things through the system. I would thoroughly recommend either getting a colonic monthly with a colon hydrotherapist for a few months, or even just doing enemas at home…there are large enema bags available now that hold 4 or 6 quarts – I use a four-quart bag now – it’s amazing. Using these larger bags can almost be like having a colonic, in terms of the depth of cleansing you can reach – you can see these bags here:
I’d suggest waiting until maybe two or three days into a Juice Feast, so that the waste will have softened a bit and you’ll have released the bulk of the solids you’d be releasing anyway – then you’ve got a chance to get into deeper cleansing. HOWEVER, depending on how long you intend to Juice Feast for, I’d also recommend you speak to your colon hydrotherapist about this for their guidance, as they may be of the opinion that if you help your body to get the waste out immediately, you’ll instantly be giving your body more time/space to release more…

I absolutely believe that if I had switched the foods I was eating for raw foods, things would have been very different. As ever, I am not a medical ‘professional’, however, I can share that I have met and heard of many people who have healed themselves of IBS and related conditions from choosing a more ‘raw’ lifestyle, though of course there are no ‘guarantees’.
I would recommend you read Paul Nison’s book called ‘Healing Inflammatory Bowel Disease’ – he is a raw food author who healed his own intestinal issues by going raw – it’s a GREAT little book – see here:
Yes, I feel that people can definitely eat 80% raw and feel great, especially if the non-raw foods consumed are whole foods, straight from the Earth – that’s the key – as long as you’re avoiding really processed items, you’ll be on a good path. I’d especially recommend avoiding anything with gluten as well as any cooked/pasteurised animal products.
How we FEEL is so vital to our health too; if you’re feeling fear, restriction and so on around your food choices, that doesn’t really serve anyone well…this is something that often seems to happen when people jump straight into a 100% raw food lifestyle – it feels like ‘too much, too soon’ and there is a feeling of restriction/loss/deprivation. I would SO much rather see someone eating 80% raw and feeling happy, balanced and enjoying things than 100% raw and feeling rocky/out of balance/fearful.
Most of us humans have SO much toxicity in us at this point and SO much to undo (detox) that truly, being 80% raw is plenty to keep in the ball-park of healing In my first two years on this path, I was 70-80% raw and still released 160lbs in that time-frame, saw many health conditions reversed and felt SO much better than my pre-raw life – 80% raw was quite enough for me at that time…
Also, another suggestion to consider is this: if you make a point of eating greens/lettuce before you eat anything cooked, it will act like a kind of ‘bullet-proof vest’. If you then also take enzymes with or after the food, it will *almost* be like you didn’t eat anything cooked, from the digestive point of view Just a tip to consider…enzymes can be expensive though…so that part might not appeal – the greens before-hand is a great habit though
