"Algae are packed with a rich broth of nutrients; it could well be that they're the healthiest foods."
Mitchell L. Gaynor, M.D., Director of Medical Oncology, Strang Cancer Prevention Center, researcher and author of Dr. Gaynor's Cancer Prevention Program.
The unique ecosystem and crystalline, pure waters of Upper Klamath Lake in Oregon provide an abundance of the synergistic elements necessary to grow a concentrated, deeply nourishing superfood Klamath Lake algae (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae). This rare superfood is a protein powerhouse. It provides a highly bioavailable protein that is 80% assimilated in our bodies (compared to meat protein, which is 20% assimilated), and its amino acid profile is optimal for humans. Klamath Lake algae is also the world's most concentrated source of chlorophyll, a valuable phytonutrient considered by many to be one of nature's most cleansing and regenerating substances.
ALGAE'S ABILITY TO PROVIDE REMARKABLE NOURISHMENT IS AS OLD AS LIFE ITSELF?
Algae first appeared on the planet over three and a half billion years ago. As one of the first life forms capable of photosynthesis, it quickly became a primary foundation food for all life forms on the planet. During photosynthesis, sunlight transforms the water and carbon dioxide contained in algae into oxygen and other essential nutrients, elemental compounds and vibrant life energy. As a result, algae are responsible for an astonishing 80% of the global oxygen supply and provide vital nourishment for every species that consumes it.
The natural wisdom of our ancestors led them to instinctively appreciate the strengthening and healing properties of algae. For thousands of years, Chinese healers have used algae for regeneration and vitality. The Toltec, Aztec and Mayan Indians so prized algae for its powerful, life-sustaining qualities that they cultivated it in carefully built aqueducts. The Kanembu people of Saharan Africa continue the ancient tradition of annual pilgrimages to Lake Johann to gather the vital wild algae blooming in its waters for nourishment and food throughout the coming year. Today, scientific research has confirmed what traditional cultures always knew: algae are one of the most nutrient-dense and restorative whole foods available to humankind. Many scientists and nutritionists expect the extraordinary properties of edible algae to play a substantial role in feeding and healing people of the 21st century.
Klamath Lake algae’s unique growing environment endows it with valuable attributes not found in other algae. Because Klamath Lake rests in an ancient, mineral-rich volcanic bed, the algae grown in it is a superior source of naturally occurring minerals. Of particular value to many people are the distinctive peptide molecules and phycocyanin that Klamath Lake algae can provide. The unusual peptide molecules found in Klamath Lake algae are precursors to two important brain foods: glycogen and neuropeptides, which help enhance and heighten mental clarity. Klamath Lake algae’s phycocyanin, the pigment responsible for its brilliant blue-green color, has been shown to inhibit the COX-2 enzyme, which is responsible for inflammation. The amazing array of highly beneficial constituents in Pure Klamath Crystals make it one of the most balanced and complete sources of vitamins, minerals, trace elements, nucleic acids, essential fatty acids, phytonutrients and antioxidants, including beta-carotene, on the planet. As a result, it has a remarkable capacity to help nurture and sustain exceptional physical and mental health.
The fullest health-enhancing potential of Klamath Lake algae can be developed and captured only if it is carefully cultivated and handled. The Synergy Company ensures the nutritional potency of our emerald-like Pure Klamath Crystals by harvesting it at the peak of bloom. At this stage of growth, the algae’s strengthening and restorative properties reach their highest level. We protect the purity of Pure Klamath Crystals by wildcrafting it exclusively from the pristine, uncontaminated waters of Upper Klamath Lake and then carefully testing and packaging it.
Pure Klamath Crystals is 100% organic. This certification is more important for algae products than most other food products because algae are a superior chelating and recycling agent. As part of its role in the larger life cycle, algae absorb toxins from the surrounding environment to purify and cleanse the ecosystem. Thus, it is essential that we consume algae grown in clean, pollutant-free environments.
The Synergy Company's meticulous attention to quality makes all the difference. Our organic and kosher Pure Klamath Crystals is simply the highest-quality Klamath Lake algae available.
Harvesting
Our algae is harvested, according to our stringent specifications, by dedicated, ethical wildcrafters. Ten years ago, The Synergy Company developed and implemented unique harvesting techniques to ensure the extraordinary quality of Pure Klamath Crystals. Using custom-designed equipment, our wildcrafters meticulously harvest from the clear, pristine waters of Upper Klamath Lake. This lake sparkles with fresh mountain spring water and is free of any agricultural contamination. Additionally, we harvest only at the peak of bloom, when our algae’s nutrients reach their fullest potential.
Processing
Immediately after we harvest the algae, we triple-filter it by using a proprietary system. Similar to state-of-the-art reverse osmosis systems used in water purification, this unique filtration system ensures Pure Klamath Crystals is free of any possible contaminants, such as other species of algae, including Microcystis aeruginosa, microorganisms, brine shrimp, insects and leaves. The algae is then immediately chilled to temperatures below 38° to preserve all of its vibrant constituents, including enzymes, chlorophyll and other valuable phytonutrients, amino acids, RNA, DNA, vitamins and minerals.
The powerful nutrient components in whole, live foods are easily destroyed by exposure to heat, so the method by which algae is dried is particularly important. Our iridescent Pure Klamath Crystals is protected with innovative Refractance Windowâ„¢ drying technology, which prevents the degradation of algae’s fragile nutrients. Studies have shown that Refractance Window drying preserves 20% more of fresh algae’s carotene content than the next best drying method. This drying method also enhances solubility. Pure Klamath Crystals disperses easily in water and has a very mild taste.
Testing
Our algae pass the most stringent scientific tests to certify purity. Our standards are stricter than those used by the World Health Organization to determine the safety of drinking water. After the harvesting and filtration processes, samples of our algae are sent to the foremost independent laboratory in the field of algae testing; this lab is certified by the USDA and registered with the FDA. A complete spectrum of tests is performed at the laboratory to ensure that our algae is 100% Klamath Lake algae (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae) and that it is free of impurities and pathogenic bacteria.
Packaging
Pure Klamath Crystals is packaged at our own award-winning, FDA-registered production facility, where we are certified to manufacture organic and kosher products. Utilizing our special Ultra Fresh Packaging, we vacuum-seal Pure Klamath Crystals in amber glass to fully protect all its potent properties.
